Vaccine Clinic on Campus-Feb. 18

We are partnering with WellSpan Health to host a vaccine clinic on on Feb. 18. Students, employees, and employee families can receive a first, second, or booster dose of Pfizer. We must have at least 15 registered individuals by Friday, Feb. 4, to host the clinic. Sign up on Redbook.

Isolation is required for anyone who is symptomatic.

Whether you are vaccinated or unvaccinated, you will be required to isolate if you have symptoms of COVID-19. If you test positive for the virus, you will need to isolate for five (5) days. It’s likely that students will need to isolate at home, not on-campus. Students in isolation are responsible for completing their work as with any other infectious disease. Shroyer Health Center staff will give students isolation instructions whether their symptoms are COVID-19-related or not. Self-isolation when ill with the common cold, influenza, or other viral illnesses is the best way to avoid getting others sick.

What data is LVC using to determine COVID-19 plans and protocols?

As LVC has been doing since the beginning of the pandemic, we use data from the United States Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) and Pennsylvania Department of Health (DoH) to inform our decisions. College leadership also consults with physicians at Penn State Health to determine what works best for LVC. Here are links to some of the federal and state information regarding the efficacy of the vaccine and its role in preventing hospitalizations and deaths.

Here is a link to one of the many studies demonstrating the efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccine as a way to prevent serious illness with rare side effects:

Comparative Effectiveness of Moderna, Pfizer-BioNTech, and Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) Vaccines in Preventing COVID-19 Hospitalizations Among Adults Without Immunocompromising Conditions — United States, March–August 2021 | MMWR (cdc.gov)

Because of the intense politicization of this vaccine the College encourages, but has not mandated, vaccination. Individuals should discuss their options with their primary health care provider.

Can a student withdraw for the semester because of the remote start, and would they receive a refund?

If a student is considering withdrawing for the semester, they should review and follow the protocols as outlined in the Withdrawal from the College and Readmission section of the Separation from the College policies. Per our business office, students withdrawing from the College may be eligible to receive refunds as determined by the office in accordance with federal regulations. Please review our Full-time Student Refunds page. Students would receive a refund/financial aid return if they withdraw or take a leave of absence before the start of the term. If such action were taken during the semester, LVC would follow its prorated refund policies.
