The College’s P.R.I.D.E. (Pursuing Respect, Inclusion, and Diversity for Everyone) Network celebrated their recent efforts to improve the College’s Campus Pride Index score. The group, which began as a social group for LGBTQ+ and allied faculty and staff, worked over the past year to evaluate and improve components of campus related to LGBTQ+ and ally programs. LVC’s Campus Pride Index score increased from a 3-star to a 4-star rating. Members of the network are Dr. Laura Eldred, interim associate provost of undergraduate education; Dr. Barbara Prince, assistant professor of sociology; Dr. Holly Wendt, interim chair of humanities, associate professor of English, and director of creative writing; Dr. Tonya Miller, assistant professor of physical therapy; and Tyler Cox, associate director of intercultural affairs and inclusion and deputy Title IX coordinator.

Dr. Tonya Miller, assistant professor of physical therapy, represented the American Physical Therapy Association in a roundtable with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid recently. Dr. Miller participated in the conversation comprised of organizations representing health care providers. Participants spoke with Dr. LaShawn McIver, director of the U.S. Office of Minority Health regarding partner experiences, as they relate to the LGBTQ+ population, vaccine rollout, and other Medicare, Medicaid, and Marketplace topics.
Dr. Tonya Miller, assistant professor of physical therapy, received the Pennsylvania Physical Therapy Association Humanitarian Award. The award is given for dedicated service outside the physical therapy profession and recognized her devoted service as executive director of PA Vent Camp, LGBTQIA+ advocacy, Domestic Violence Shelter of Cumberland and Perry County Board of Directors, and service to the Cumberland County Commission for Women.
