Mike Rhoades ’95 Honors Father

Mike Rhoades ’95, head men’s basketball coach at NCAA Division I Virginia Commonwealth University, was highlighted in a recent article, Rhoades’ roots runs deep, in his hometown newspaper. The former history major took time off from his coaching duties to appear at the 8th annual James J. Rhoades Memorial Golf Tournament and Picnic, which is held in honor of Rhoades’ late father, Sen. James J. Rhoades.

Coach McAlester, LVC Earn Sportsmanship Award from Basketball Officials

Brad McAlester, head men’s basketball coach, was recently selected as the winner of the 2016–2017 Collegiate Basketball Officials Association (CBOA) Schoenfeld Sportsmanship Award for the Harrisburg Area. This is the highest honor that the CBOA annually bestows on any collegiate institution.

 

It is presented to the college or university, which in the judgment of the CBOA membership, best exemplifies “the highest degree of sportsmanship, character, and ethics among their players, coaches, and spectators.” It is the third time that McAlester and his LVC coaches, players, and fans have won the CBOA award since 1996–1997.
