Dr. McEvoy Published

Dr. McEvoy Chairs Committee and LVC Sponsors International Conference

Dr. Gabriela McEvoy, chair of languages and associate professor of Spanish, is chair of the organizing committee for the Eighth Society for Irish Latin American Studies conference, “Commemoration, Memory, and Dialogue with the Past: Ireland–Latin America, Lima, Peru, from Nov. 23–26. LVC is a co-sponsor for the conference held in conjunction with ABEI–Associação Brasileira de Estudos Irlandeses, the WBYeats Chair of Irish Studies/University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, the Asociación de Estudios Irlandeses del Sur, Argentina, and the Embassy of Ireland in Chile, Peru, and Ecuador. The Universidad del Pacífico and Proyecto Especial Bicentenario are co-hosting the conference.

Dr. McEvoy to Participate in Culture and Irish Studies Series

Dr. Gabriela McEvoy, chair of languages and associate professor of Spanish, was invited to participate in the Culture and Irish Studies Series, “Presencia irlandesa en Paraguay, Peru, and Argentina,” She will present with Dr. María Monte de López Moreira, president of Paraguay’s Academy of History, and Dr. Maria Eugenia Cruset, an Argentinian professor and researcher at the Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas. The event is organized by the Asociación de Estudios Irlandeses del Sur (AEIS) and the Universidad del Salvador, Argentina. 

Dr. McEvoy Invited to Present at Ireland’s Peruvian Embassy and Had Book Reviewed

A book review on Dr. Gabriela McEvoy’s The Invisible Experience. Irish Immigrants in Peru was published on Studi Irlandesi (an Italian journal of Irish Studies, Firenze University Press, pp. 491–493). Dr. McEvoy, chair of languages and professor of Spanish, also was invited by the Embassy of Peru in Ireland to present a webinar, “Irish Diaspora in Peru: Challenges and Contributions.” The webinar is part of the celebration for the Bicentennial Week of Peru in Ireland.

Dr. McEvoy Earns Irish Studies Certification

Dr. Gabriela McEvoy, chair of languages and professor of Spanish, completed her certification in Irish Studies at the Universidad del Salvador in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Dr. McEvoy earned the certificate virtually through the university’s Modern Languages Program.

Dr. McEvoy’s Book Reviewed by University College London Prof.

Edward Walsh, Bartlett School of Graduate Studies, Faculty of the Built Environment, University College London, editor for the South-Eastern Catholic History, the journal of the Essex Recusant Society, recently reviewed Dr. Gabriela McEvoy’s La experiencia invisible. Immigrantes irlandeses en el Perú for the Irish Migration Studies in Latin America journal. Walsh called the book by McEvoy, chair of languages and associate professor of Spanish, a “fascinating study” and “great read.”
