Dr. Guzman-Zavala and Dr. Hinshaw Collaborate on Dutchirican: A Latino History of Central Pennsylvania

Dr. Ivette Guzman-Zavala, associate professor of Spanish, and Dr. John Hinshaw, professor of history, collaborated on an art exhibit at the Suzanne H. Arnold Art Gallery that runs through August 13. Dutchirian: A Latino History of Central Pennsylvania combines photography and public history to tell the story of Latinos and their roots in Central Pennsylvania.

Historic photographs are displayed from Frank Espada’s work on the Puerto Rican diaspora in the 1970s, as well as contemporary photographs from Lackawanna County by Rolfe Ross and from Lebanon County by Dr. Guzman-Zavala, whose original training was in art. The public history traces the contributions of Spanish-speakers to Pennsylvania from the American Revolution and Civil War to the present.
