Rev. Carolyn Gillette’s ’82 Hymn about Texas Church Massacre Featured in Philadelphia Inquirer

Rev. Carolyn Gillette ’82, co-pastor of Overbrook Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, was interviewed after writing a hymn in honor of the 26 people killed at the First Baptist Church in Texas. The article, “From Texas shootings to hurricanes, Overbrook pastor turns news into hymns,” notes that Rev. Gillette, a religion major, has written more than 300 hymns in response to gun violence, natural disasters, and other topics, including a piece commissioned by Bishop Peggy Johnson ’75, and honorary LVC trustee and Bishop of the Philadelphia Area of the United Methodist Church.
