Dr. McEvoy’s Students Present in Puerto Rico

Dr. Gabriella McEvoy, chair of languages and professor of Spanish, joined two students in Puerto Rico during spring break to present their research at the XXIX Congreso Internacional de Literatura y Estudios Hispánicos in San Juan, Puerto Rico. 

Julia Resele ’22, early childhoodspecial education, and Spanish, presented “Mercedes Gallagher de Parks: A Hidden Gem in the Peruvian Feminist Movement,” and Grace Parks ’21, D’23, exercise sciencephysical therapy, and Spanish, presented “Effects of World War II through the perspective of the Peruvian intellectual, Mercedes Gallagher de Parks.” Their research projects were developed with Dr. McEvoy as part of her current research and work done in her Latin American Cultures class and will be published as a book next year.

Brianne Eisenecker ’18 Profiled for International Service Work

The Jefferson Chronicle published a Q&A with Brianne Eisenecker ’18, early childhood education and elementary special education, to discuss her service trips to Bali and Cambodia during the past few years. Last summer, she spent three weeks teaching English through her church and the Yayasan Widya Sari in Tianyar, Bali. Previously, Eisenecker had taught English in a Cambodia orphanage.

 

Veronica Nazario ’20 Named Mosaic Mentor

Sophomore Veronica Nazario, a double major in early childhood and special education, was recognized by her hometown newspaper for being named a Mosaic Mentor at LVC. Nazario, who also minors in Spanish, was one of 14 Mosaic Mentors selected this academic year to assist incoming and transfer ALANA, multicultural fellowship, LVEP, international, and LGBTQ+-identifying students with their academic, social, and personal transition during their first year at The Valley.

VALE Artist Sam Machin ’19 Performs Live on ABC

Sam Machin ’19, early childhood education and business administration, performed “Good Morning Sunshine” live during WHTM TV 27’s Good Day PA show July 17. Sam performed with the Anthony Pieruccini Trio, which has two LVC students as members, to promote her newly released EP, “In the Stars.” In February, Sam was signed to LVC’s student-run VALE records and the student-run VALE produced and promoted Sam’s album.
