Erin Ziegler ’22, biochemistry & molecular biology major and environmental science minor, presented a poster, “The effects of deer, light, and competition on Podophyllum peltatum,” at the 2021 Pennsylvania Botany Symposium. Jake Beidler ’23, environmental science, Dr. Doug Becker, assistant professor of biology, and Dr. Rebecca Urban, director of environmental science and professor of biology, co-authored the poster.

Dr. Rob Carey, associate professor of biology and director of biochemistry & molecular biology, co-authored “Expansin gene loss is a common occurrent during adaptation to an aquatic environment” in The Plant Journal. His co-authors included LVC alumni Alexa Bowman ’19 and Dr. Nathan Hepler ’13.
Brandon Roy ’20, biochemistry & molecular biology, won an Honorable Mention in the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship Program. Last year, Brandon was the College’s first-known Goldwater Scholar and will pursue his Ph.D. at Cornell University through a fellowship this fall.
Robert Tesoriero ’19, a biochemistry & molecular biology major and music minor from Ridgewood, N.J., received an Honorable Mention accolade in the field of life sciences from The Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation. Tesoriero plans to pursue a Ph.D. in biotechnology. He was mentored by Dr. Walter Patton, chair and associate professor of chemistry, and Dr. Michelle Rasmussen, assistant professor of chemistry. Dr. Philip Benesch, director of external scholarships & fellowships, helped guide Tesoriero through the process.
