Dr. Dompier Co-publishes Softball Research

Dr. Thomas Dompier, associate professor of athletic training, and several colleagues published Non-Time-Loss and Time-Loss Softball Injuries in Secondary School Athletes: A Report From the National Athletic Treatment, Injury and Outcomes Network (NATION) in the Journal of Athletic Training. The researchers found, among other results, that “secondary school softball players sustained a larger proportion of NTL [non-time-loss] injuries than TL [time-loss] injuries.”

Dr. Frank Presents Trio of Workshops Nationally

Dr. Eva Frank, assistant professor of athletic training, made three presentations on Professional Branding, Interviewing, and Working a Room to athletic training programs at Florida International University, Missouri State University, and West Chester University this fall.

Dr. Dompier Guest Lectures at the University of South Carolina

Dr. Thomas Dompier, associate professor of athletic training, presented an annual series of guest lectures on clinical epidemiology for the University of South Carolina’s Department of Exercise Science in the School of Public Health research methods course. Dompier presented Oct. 1, 3, and 8.

Dr. Dompier Co-Authors Paper on Basketball Injuries

Dr. Thomas Dompier, associate professor of athletic training, co-authored Epidemiology of Secondary Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball Injuries: National Athletic Treatment, Injury, and Outcomes Network in the Journal of Athletic Training. Dompier’s co-authors included Dr. Zachary Y. Kerr from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Dr. Erin B. Wasserman, director of the NCAA Injury Prevention Program, Datalys Center for Sports Injury Research and Prevention, among others.

Professors Frank and Ulrich Publish on NATA Blog

Dr. Eva Frank, assistant professor of athletic training, and Erin Ulrich, clinical education coordinator of athletic training and clinical assistant professor, co-published “Globally ‘ElevATing’ the profession” on the National Athletic Trainers’ Association blog in September. They shared their experience on how programs, such as the short-term study abroad to China they recently led, support elevating the athletic training profession globally.

Dr. Dompier Co-Authors Research Published in Pediatrics and Journal of Athletic Training

Dr. Thomas Dompier, associate professor of athletic training, co-authored Injury Incidence in Youth, High School, and NCAA Men’s Lacrosse in Pediatrics, the journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics, in June 2019. Dompier also co-authored research, Appropriate Medical Care Standards for Organizations Sponsoring Athletic Activity for the Secondary School-Aged Athlete: A Summary Statement, in the Journal of Athletic Training in May 2019.

Dr. Dompier and Colleagues Publish 14 Papers on Sports Injuries

Dr. Thomas Dompier, associate professor of athletic training, and colleagues from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, George Mason University, Palo Alto Medical Foundation Research Institute, University of Colorado School of Medicine, Colorado School of Public Health, MedStar Sports Medicine Research Center, and Datalys Center for Sports Injury Research and Prevention published a series of 14 papers in the Journal of Athletic Training comparing high school and collegiate sports injuries. The papers, published in 2018 and 2019, compared sports injuries for women’s lacrosse, men’s lacrosse, softball, baseball, men’s wrestling, men’s and women’s ice hockey (combined paper), women’s basketball, men’s basketball, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, field hockey, women’s volleyball, football, and methods.

Dr. Dompier to Receive NATA’s Top Two Awards

Dr. Thomas Dompier, associate professor of athletic training, recently learned that he has been recognized as a National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) Fellow, which is the highest distinction an athletic training researcher can receive, and that he was named a 2018 Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer (MDAT) by NATA, which is awarded only to the most distinguished scholars in the profession. Dompier joins recent winners from the University of Virginia, University of Michigan, and University of Connecticut. Be being named a NATA Fellow, Dompier joins an elite group of 61 NATA Fellows out of 45,000 professionals. He will receive the awards during the association’s annual meeting in Las Vegas, Nev., in June.

Dr. Dompier Has Third Op-Ed Published in USA Today in Eight Months  

Dr. Thomas Dompier’s, associate professor of athletic training, op-ed “Unfair play: Insurance costs are making football, other sports, prohibitively expensive,” published on USA Today Feb. 6. USA Today previously published Dompier op-eds Aug. 27, 2018, “I’m donating my brain to science for the sake of football and facts. Really.”; and April 25, 2018, “Replacing youth tackle football with flag football might not make our children safer.”
