Dr. Pitonyak Gives Invited Seminar Talk

Dr. Daniel Pitonyak, assistant professor of physics, gave an invited seminar talk at the COMPASS Analysis Meeting, “First Global QCD Analysis of the TMD g1T from Semi-Inclusive DIS Data.” COMPASS is an experimental collaboration at CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research) that studies the internal structure of protons and neutrons to discover more about their properties.

Dr. Dietrich Conducts District 7 Orchestra

Dr. Johannes Dietrich, Newton and Adelaide Burgner Endowed Professor of Music and director of the LVC Symphony Orchestra, recently conducted the PMEA District 7 Orchestra. More than 100 high school students from southcentral Pennsylvania participated in the festival which was hosted by Eastern York High School and Amanda Fortney ’02, M’14, orchestra director. The program included the Pennsylvania premiere of Stella Sung’s “The Phoenix Rising” and Steven Amundson’s “Longing for Your Return.”  

Dr. Fung to Perform Bach throughout Central Pennsylvania

Dr. Eric Fung, Carmean Endowed Professor of Music (piano), will perform J.S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations, BWV 988, and Italian Concerto, BWV 971, in three upcoming concert performances. Dr. Fung, a Steinway Artist, will perform a faculty recital in Lutz Music Hall on Jan. 30, and at the Trust Performing Arts Center on Feb. 4, which is sponsored by the Lancaster International Piano Festival on Feb. 4. He will complete his trio of Bach piano concerts at the Pine Street Presbyterian Church on Feb. 5 as part of their Music at Pine Street Series. 

Dr. Whiteley Conducts Research in Ireland

Dr. Kathryn Whiteley, associate professor of criminal justice, continued to research incarcerated women sentenced for murder during a recent return trip to Dublin, Ireland. While there she spoke to women incarcerated in the Dochas Centre women’s prison and met with Mary O’Connor, former prison governor of the Dochas Centre, Louise O’Connor, former chief officer, and Patricia Kelleher, assistant governor of the Mountjoy male prison. 

Second Edition of Dr. Lappas’ Textbook Published by Elsevier

Elsevier published “Forensic Toxicology: Principles and Concepts,” the second edition of a textbook written by Dr. Courtney Lappas, professor of biology, and her father, Dr. Nicholas Lappas, professor emeritus, George Washington University. The new edition “takes the reader back to the origins of forensic toxicology providing an overview of the largely unchanging principles of the discipline.”

Dr. Dolan’s Op-ed Published by The Hill

Dr. Chris Dolan’s, director of the Master of Science in Intelligence and Security Studies Program and professor of political science, op-ed, “Russian threats against the Ukraine could push Finland and Sweden toward NATO,” was published by The Hill this week. Dr. Dolan, a frequent contributor to The Hill, noted “Finland and Sweden have significant security concerns with their larger and more aggressive neighbor to the east.” And “If admitted, each would enhance security in NATO’s northeastern flank and put Russia on notice.”

PennLive Publishes Dr. Josephson’s Op-Ed; Heterodox Academy Names Her a Writing Fellow

Dr. Kimberlee Josephson, associate dean of the Breen Center for Graduate Success and associate professor of business administration, had another op-ed, “Too many government mandates hurt Pennsylvania businesses,” published by PennLive. And Dr. Josephson, a member of the Heterodox Academy, was invited to become a Writing Fellow for the academy.

Golden Key Academy Publishes Dr. Josephson’s Article

The Golden Key Academy published “If college is a consideration, don’t delay,” by Dr. Kimberlee Josephson, associate dean of the Breen Center for Graduate Success and associate professor of business administration. Dr. Josephson provides for reasons why “it is best for students who are interested in a degree program to not delay…” in the article, which requires a membership to access.

Dr. Orlando ’19, D’21 Published on NAPA

Dr. Catherine “Kate” Orlando ’19, D’21 (exercise science and physical therapy) recently published “Play Therapy: Purposeful Fun for Your Child,” on the NAPA Center website. Dr. Orlando, a physical therapist who joined the NAPA Center in Los Angeles, Calif., after her sixth-year clinical in spring 2021, works with her colleagues to serve children with neurological and developmental needs.

Dr. Josephson Presents for International Webinar

Dr. Kimberlee Josephson, associate dean of the Breen Center for Graduate Success and associate professor of business administration, recently presented as part of the Virtual Learning Environments and Employability Conference. She presented her book chapter, Minding the Competency Gap From College to Career: The Value of Virtual Teaming and VLEs for Skill Development (pp. 268–288). Dr. Josephson, introduced around the 4:46 mark and begins her presentation at the 26:33 mark, discusses the value of higher education and in-person/residential college campuses.
