Dr. Dolan Interviewed by Pakistan Newspaper

Chris J. Dolan, professor of political science, was interviewed by Indus News (Lahore, Pakistan) on right-wing extremist provocations in the wake of the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, the deployment of federal law enforcement, and the 2020 presidential election. Collin Barker ’19 Presents at Young Researcher’s Glass Conference

Collin Barker ’19, physics, presented “Laser-induced crystallization and reduction of copper-doped lithium nioboscilicate glass” at the virtual Young Researcher’s Glass Conference on July 27. Barker, a Ph.D. student in the Lehigh University Physics Department, conducted student-faculty research in the topic with Dr. Keith Veenhuizen, assistant professor of physics, director of cooperative engineering programs.

Four Alumni Named Forty Under 40

Ten percent of the 2020 Central Penn Business Journal’s Forty Under 40 are LVC graduates representing a variety of professions. The Valley honorees are E. Thomas McKee M’06 (Buehler & McKee Financial Group of Wells Fargo Advisors), Anne Parmer ’03 (Andculture), Todd Snovel ’06, and Erin Treese ’09 (Members 1st Federal Credit Union). 

Spanish Publisher Releases Language Faculty Book

Dr. Carmen Garcia-Armero, associate professor of SpanishDr. Gabriela McEvoy, chair of languages and associate professor of Spanish, and Dr. Fabricio Silva, assistant professor of Spanish, co-authored Espectros del poder: representaciones y discursos de resistencia en literatura y cine en los siglos XX-XXI.The book, which Silva also co-edited, was published by Editorial Pilegos in Spain. The work is a collection of essays that provide a cultural framework for thinking about the relationship between the unconscious and social structures in Spain and Latin America.

Dr. Taylor and Lebanon VA Colleagues Win Grant

Dr. Grant Taylor, professor of art & art history, and his clinical staff colleagues at the Lebanon VA were part of a $25,000 grant for The Seeing Lens: Therapeutic Photography Group. The grant was part of the expansion of veteran arts and humanities programming through the participation in the VA’s Office of Patient Centered Care & Cultural Transformation. The grant will fund new art therapy projects, including Taylor’s new initiative Memory Field: Therapeutic Painting Group, which is a complimentary therapy treating PTSD in veterans.

Dr. McEvoy’s Book of Stories Published by Spanish Press

Editorial Pliegos in Madrid, Spain, published “Palimpsesto. Relatos cortos de irlandeses en el Peru” by Dr. Gabriela McEvoy, chair and associate professor of Spanish. The book of 23 short stories depicts small scenes of everyday life of Irish immigrants in Peru. The book spans from the mid-nineteenth century to the twentieth century. 

Bridget Finn ’21 Named to MAC COVID-19 Advisory Group

The Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) announced that Bridget Finn ’21, exercise science, was named to the MAC COVID-19 advisory group. Finn was the only student selected to the 14-member group that will provide recommendations to the MAC presidents and athletic directors based on local and national guidance. 

Finn, a member of the LVC women’s soccer team, is president of the MAC Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and a member of the NCAA Division III SAAC.
