{"id":9257,"date":"2022-11-28T19:25:37","date_gmt":"2022-11-28T19:25:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/wordpress\/lavie\/?p=9257"},"modified":"2022-11-28T19:25:37","modified_gmt":"2022-11-28T19:25:37","slug":"the-pride-of-the-valley-takes-on-london","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/lavie\/2022\/11\/28\/the-pride-of-the-valley-takes-on-london\/","title":{"rendered":"The Pride of The Valley takes on London"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"dslc-theme-content\"><div id=\"dslc-theme-content-inner\">\n<p>By Alexis McCarney \u201925, staff writer&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Pride of The Valley marching band has been invited to perform in the London New Year\u2019s Day Parade.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The organization was initially invited prior to the pandemic, which prevented the trip for the last two years.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe received the invitation in the fall of 2019,\u201d Dr. Christopher Heffer, Pride of The Valley director, said.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The band has an extensive itinerary planned for the trip, including tours of Oxford University, Windsor Castle, the River Thames, the Tower of London and much more. Many members are attending, as well as alumni and family members.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have around 94 current students, 12 alumni and 27 parents and family members going on the trip,\u201d Heffner said.&nbsp; \u201cI am looking forward to students having an opportunity to experience London.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year\u2019s marching band show theme is centered around famous British and American music, some of which will be showcased in a grandstand performance. During the parade, the band will play some pep band favorites: LVC\u2019s fight song, Valley Spell-Out, Go Valley, Hair of the Dog and Thrift Shop. Students are very excited about this long-awaited trip.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis trip is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I can\u2019t wait to experience it with my friends,\u201d Sydney Frey, a sophomore piccolo player, said.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The band leaves on Dec. 28, and will return on Jan. 4.
