{"id":8399,"date":"2022-10-17T19:31:07","date_gmt":"2022-10-17T19:31:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/wordpress\/lavie\/?p=8399"},"modified":"2022-10-17T19:31:07","modified_gmt":"2022-10-17T19:31:07","slug":"exploring-in-college","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/lavie\/2022\/10\/17\/exploring-in-college\/","title":{"rendered":"Exploring in college\u202f"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"dslc-theme-content\"><div id=\"dslc-theme-content-inner\">\n<p>By Alexis McCarney &#8217;25, staff writer&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many students graduating high school face a tough question &#8211; what career should one pursue?\u202f\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At 18, most people do not know what they want to do careerwise.\u202f However, LVC has a program to help those who are unsure.\u202f\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere is a lot of pressure for 17 and 18-year-olds to magically know what they want to do in life, and that\u2019s not realistic.\u201d Elizabeth Julian, assistant dean of student success and retention, said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Samantha Miller is a sophomore sociology major who\u202fjust declared her major at the beginning of September.\u202f After going through LVC\u2019s exploratory program for undecided students, she feels it has helped her find her passion.\u202f\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI chose LVC because they have the number one job placement after college in the state and a good study abroad program,\u201d the sophomore said.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The exploratory program offers students the opportunity to research interests they are considering pursuing without committing.\u202f This program may be a good fit for students who are unsure about what they want to do.\u202f\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI was considering teaching and actually got to observe a classroom even though I was not declared as an early childhood education major,\u201d Miller said. \u201cLVC allowed me to have that experience which helped me rule that out as a possible major.\u201d &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the Exploratory program at LVC launched in 2020, it has more than doubled in size from 14 to 43 for the incoming class in 2021.
