{"id":8148,"date":"2022-03-29T23:06:46","date_gmt":"2022-03-29T23:06:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/wordpress\/lavie\/?p=8148"},"modified":"2022-03-29T23:06:46","modified_gmt":"2022-03-29T23:06:46","slug":"lvc-announces-new-dei-director","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/lavie\/2022\/03\/29\/lvc-announces-new-dei-director\/","title":{"rendered":"LVC announces new DEI director"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"dslc-theme-content\"><div id=\"dslc-theme-content-inner\">\n<p>By Josh Hildebrand \u201922, staff writer\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keeping in line with its drive for further diversity and more inclusion, LVC announced Annesha Edwards-Carter as its new Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Intercultural Affairs.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The role is not entirely new for Edwards-Carter, coming from St. Mary\u2019s College of Maryland, where she oversaw programs and initiatives regarding diversity and inclusion. The key difference between the two roles is in scope, a change she is excited to utilize.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am continuing the work that I have done previously but at a more senior level,\u201d Edwards-Carter said. \u201cI really get to be \u2018boots on the ground\u2019 with students here, and that interests me.\u201d\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The more hands-on approached afforded by this role at LVC is what initially attracted Edwards-Carter. She is keen to ask the LVC student body what they would like to see added or improved.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am very interested in supporting students, collaborating with key partners on campus and creating intentional [diversity] programming,\u201d Edwards-Carter said. \u201cProgramming that highlights our BIPOC and LGBT+ population is what I would like to see implemented.\u201d\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Edwards-Carter hails from New Castle, Delaware. She attended Manhattanville College in New York, earning her degree in political science and sociology. Graduate school was always on the table, and she decided to attend Temple University to obtain her Masters in Higher Education Administration, determined to become involved with projects focused on inclusion and diversity.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDiversity is having that sense of belonging,\u201d Edwards-Carter said. \u201cDiversity work requires the community from a macro and micro level collective to do the work which means having difficult conversations or unlearning problematic ideologies and\/or behaviors.
