{"id":7190,"date":"2021-05-10T14:10:03","date_gmt":"2021-05-10T14:10:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/wordpress\/lavie\/?p=7190"},"modified":"2021-05-10T14:10:03","modified_gmt":"2021-05-10T14:10:03","slug":"a-senior-reflects-upon-their-time-at-lvc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/lavie\/2021\/05\/10\/a-senior-reflects-upon-their-time-at-lvc\/","title":{"rendered":"Senior reflects upon their time at LVC"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"dslc-theme-content\"><div id=\"dslc-theme-content-inner\">\n<p>By Branden Matassa \u201922, staff writer&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As&nbsp;the spring semester comes to an end, seniors&nbsp;are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lisa Orlando&nbsp;is&nbsp;one of those seniors.&nbsp;One of the reasons why Orlando chose LVC was to get a fresh start.&nbsp;Originally from Long Island, New York,&nbsp;she knew that LVC would be a place&nbsp;to&nbsp;give her that,&nbsp;and more.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cComing here where nobody knows me really allowed me to come out of my shell and branch out,\u201d Orlando,&nbsp;a&nbsp;physical therapy major, said.&nbsp;\u201cNot only that, but I\u2019ve met some amazing people and have made what will be lifelong friends.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to taking advantage of LVC\u2019s opportunities, Orlando went above and beyond. Throughout her four years at LVC,&nbsp;she\u2019s been a teacher\u2019s assistant&nbsp;(TA), resident assistant&nbsp;(RA), 5050 peer helper, peer tutor, mosaic mentor, writing mentor&nbsp;and held leadership positions in&nbsp;LatinX.&nbsp;Orlando also participated in intramural sports like&nbsp;volleyball, where she was the captain of her team.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As&nbsp;a&nbsp;physical therapy major, Orlando&nbsp;talked about how&nbsp;rigorous&nbsp;the journey has been.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFrom the beginning you\u2019re being tested through the weed-out classes of biology and chemistry to see if we can handle it,\u201d Orlando said. \u201cHowever, you can\u2019t just get to grad school by passing level&nbsp;one.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the 2021 academic year, Orlando&nbsp;took a big leap&nbsp;by&nbsp;making her transition&nbsp;to&nbsp;the&nbsp;first semester of graduate school, which&nbsp;included an anatomy course and&nbsp;a&nbsp;cadaver lab.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although, she wasn\u2019t alone in this process.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFortunately, I had a great support system throughout the anatomy course and cadaver lab despite it being online,\u201d Orlando said. \u201cThe TAs were very helpful and were able to guide me through the transition to grad school and teach me how to study for the course.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her friends had a similar impact.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI found my core group of friends to be extremely supportive,\u201d Orlando said. \u201cWe push each other to not only be better students but better people and a lot of my success is contributed from them.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aside from classes required for&nbsp;a&nbsp;physical therapy&nbsp;major, Orlando learned to enjoy many&nbsp;Constellation courses that focused on her interests.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am a huge movie buff, so taking a horror film focused FYE and integrative&nbsp;course&nbsp;was an amazing opportunity,\u201d Orlando&nbsp;said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She found these classes so appealing because the professors encouraged openness to ideas and created&nbsp;a judgement-free atmosphere.&nbsp;Being surrounded by classmates with similar interests also improved the environment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After graduation,&nbsp;Orlando will be returning to LVC for two more years to earn&nbsp;her&nbsp;doctorate&nbsp;degree.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>By Branden Matassa \u201922, staff writer&nbsp; As&nbsp;the spring semester comes to an end, seniors&nbsp;are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel.&nbsp; Lisa Orlando&nbsp;is&nbsp;one of those seniors.&nbsp;One of the reasons why Orlando <a class=\"mh-excerpt-more\" href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/lavie\/2021\/05\/10\/a-senior-reflects-upon-their-time-at-lvc\/\" title=\"Senior reflects upon their time at LVC\">[&#8230;]<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":5947,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[],"class_list":{"0":"post-7190","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-campus-news"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/lavie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/7190","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/lavie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/lavie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/lavie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/4"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/lavie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=7190"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/lavie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/7190\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/lavie\/wp-json\/"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/lavie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=7190"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/lavie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=7190"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/lavie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=7190"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
