Akers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lauren Francis-Sharma is the author of&nbsp;\u201cBook of the Little Axe,\u201d&nbsp;which was published in May 2020,&nbsp;and&nbsp;\u201c\u2019Til&nbsp;the Well Runs Dry,\u201d&nbsp;which debuted in 2014.&nbsp;\u201c\u2019Til&nbsp;the Well Runs Dry\u201d&nbsp;was chosen as an O, The Oprah Magazine Summer Reading Pick and&nbsp;highly recommended&nbsp;by the New York Times, USA Today, Essence Magazine and&nbsp;People Magazine.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Francis-Sharma is the daughter of Trinidadian immigrants and refers to the Caribbean in much of her writing. She&nbsp;is the owner of D.C.&nbsp;Writers Room, a co-working space dedicated to both published and aspiring writers.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She is also the assistant director of Bread Loaf Writers\u2019 Conference at Middlebury College. Her&nbsp;short story &#8220;Demented&#8221; is featured in the anthology&nbsp;\u201cUs Against Alzheimer\u2019s: Stories of Family Love and Faith\u201d&nbsp;edited by Marita Golden.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Francis-Sharma will be on campus virtually on&nbsp;Tuesday,&nbsp;Oct. 20, from 12:30-1:45 p.m.,&nbsp;to speak to some of the English classes, but students from other majors are welcome and encouraged to attend.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She will also be participating in a Zoom call at 7&nbsp;p.m. in which she will read some of her work and answer questions.&nbsp;Zoom links can be found on La Vie\u2019s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>W.M. Akers is a novelist, playwright and game designer.\u00a0\u00a0Akers\u00a0is the author of the mystery novels\u00a0\u201cWestside\u201d and \u201cWestside Lights,\u201d\u00a0as well as the\u00a0creator of the bestselling games\u00a0Deadball: Baseball with Dice and Comrades: A Revolutionary RPG; and the curator of\u202fthe history newsletter Strange Times.
