The Zoom calls don\u2019t end when class does. The college is doing everything it can to keep students feeling connected and engaged with continued extracurriculars available for all students. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since campus was first affected by COVID-19 in\nMarch, Student Engagement has been implementing events that can\nbe accessed virtually, including a yoga class. The yoga\nclass is held on the lawn behind the Shroyer Health Center but can be\njoined by Zoom as well.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe have an iPad on a tripod focused on Sarena (or the\nstudent leading the event) and we advertise the Zoom link for students to\njoin in,\u201d Jen Evans, director of student engagement, said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Student Engagement has been experimenting with\ndifferent events to see what works best to include both\non-campus and online students. The yoga sessions have been receiving good\nfeedback so far, but there are events that aren\u2019t translating as well over Zoom\ncalls.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe did the same thing for the comedy show last week and\nwill offer our Thursday night trivia virtually as well,\u201d Evans said. \u201cThe\ncomedy show didn\u2019t work too well last week so we may not do that\nagain. Viewers had a hard time hearing him with all the background noise.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Figuring out how to keep online students involved in\non-campus events is a trial and error process. Evans said one of the\nhardest aspects of planning events is finding a variety of events and\nappropriate places to host them.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Mary Green\ntent works ok but seems like there is always a loud car and or train that goes\nby and we seem to have a resident cricket that gets noisy at times,\u201d Evans\nsaid. \u201cLighting is also a challenge. But the darn Pennsylvania weather has\nbeen most challenging \u2013 it seems to be a rainy\nstart to the semester.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If students have any ideas for events that can be held both in person and virtually, share them with Student Engagement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
