{"id":6041,"date":"2020-04-29T13:57:27","date_gmt":"2020-04-29T13:57:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/wordpress\/lavie\/?p=6041"},"modified":"2020-04-29T13:57:27","modified_gmt":"2020-04-29T13:57:27","slug":"senior-spotlight-rachael-speck","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/lavie\/2020\/04\/29\/senior-spotlight-rachael-speck\/","title":{"rendered":"Senior Spotlight: Rachael Speck"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"dslc-theme-content\"><div id=\"dslc-theme-content-inner\">\n<p>By\nMegan Finlan \u201921, staff writer<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Coming\nto LVC, Rachael Speck hadn\u2019t initially intended on going to graduate school,\nbut after participating in multiple research projects, Speck knew it was\nsomething she wanted to continue after graduation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During\nher junior year, Speck participated in an independent study where she completed\nher project \u201cPublic-ation: Poetry in Everyday Spaces.\u201d It was through this\nproject that Speck says her desire to pursue graduate study after LVC was\nsolidified. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\nthink my independent study helped prepare me for graduate school the most\nbecause it required me to work more independently and allow me to go into depth\nabout a topic that I wouldn\u2019t have be able to research in another class,\u201d Speck\nsaid. \u201cHowever, all of the English classes I\u2019ve taken at LVC have allowed me to\npursue work based on my own interests.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speck\nbegan the search process for graduate schools in the spring of her junior year\nand by the fall, she had narrowed down a list of eight school to apply to. Along\nwith her usual rigorous course load in the fall, Speck also had to begin\ndrafting personal statements, working on a writing sample and collecting\nletters of recommendations throughout the semester. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that Speck has completed the application process and has made her decision on where she will pursue her education after LVC, she can take a breath and look back on the experiences she has gained through her involvement at the College. Speck was heavily involved in the English department on campus as she participated as the Poetry Editor for Green Blotter Literary Society, President for Sigma Tau Delta and was involved in LVC Writers\u2019 Group. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll\nmiss the English department the most,\u201d Speck said. \u201cThe department was always\nthere to chat and every has been super supportive of my work over the past four\nyears.
