The Registrar has provided students with an email that included a link to instructions for registration and a new video to guide students through the process.

“We would like advising to occur in a similar way as it would have been on campus,” Jeremy Maisto, associate dean of academic success and registrar, said.

Since typical in-person meetings cannot occur, advising meetings must be done alternatively through email, phone calls and video chat platforms. The method of communication should be determined between the student and the advisor according to what works best for them.

“A video meeting [for academic advising] is preferable, so that students and faculty can have a productive discussion about students’ plans for next year (and beyond),” Maisto said. “It’s important that students prepare for their advising meetings ahead of time. When it is their time, students should make sure they have submitted their registration correctly for both fall and spring terms. Registered courses appear green and will indicate a status of ‘registered.’ If they don’t appear this way, they are only planned and not officially registered.”

If courses are closed, students can add themselves to a waitlist.

“Students should be ready to register for alternate courses in case they don’t get their first choice,” Maisto said. “If they are waitlisted for a required course, we will be factoring that in our review of waitlists after the registration period. We do this in conjunction with academic departments-it make take us a couple weeks to complete this process.”

Students can best prepare for registration by viewing “My Progress” on AccessLVC to see what course requirements are still needed to complete their degree. This shows specific courses they must take that they can find and add as a plan to their schedule before meeting with their academic advisor.

Students with questions about registration should email registrar@lvc.edu.

By Marj O’Neill ’21, Staff Writer Despite classes being moved to remote instruction for the remainder of the semester, registration for classes is still able to happen.
