{"id":5927,"date":"2020-03-30T18:42:36","date_gmt":"2020-03-30T18:42:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/wordpress\/lavie\/?p=5927"},"modified":"2020-03-30T18:42:36","modified_gmt":"2020-03-30T18:42:36","slug":"academic-affairs-implements-emergency-passfail-policy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/lavie\/2020\/03\/30\/academic-affairs-implements-emergency-passfail-policy\/","title":{"rendered":"Academic Affairs implements emergency Pass\\Fail policy"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"dslc-theme-content\"><div id=\"dslc-theme-content-inner\">\n<p>By Marj O&#8217;Neill &#8217;21, Staff Writer<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Academic Affairs team\u202fhas put a new pass\\fail policy into effect for the remainder of the spring semester, as a result of\u202fthe unexpected transition to remote learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After reviewing multiple models, the team\u202fdecided on this emergency policy for undergraduate students to support\u202fstudents during this remote learning period and\u202fhelp them through\u202fthe unique\u202fchallenges they may be facing.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under this policy,\u202fstudents earn standard letter grades according to the LVC grading scale, but they can\u202fconvert that grade to a pass\\fail designation if they want and obtain\u202fapproval from their advisor.\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBeginning on May 15, 2020, and until the end of the business day on May 22, 2020,\u202fstudents may elect to convert their grade to a pass\\fail designation,\u201d a member of the Academic Affairs team said.&nbsp; \u201cA\u202fpassing grade will\u202fcount for hours towards degree, hours in residence, and will fulfill\u202fprerequisite requirements where a grade is not indicated in the academic catalog.\u202fA grade of P (pass) will be assigned if a student earns a D- or higher. A grade of PH (pass with honors)\u202fwill be assigned if a student earns a B+ or higher. Grades of P and PH are not calculated in the GPA.\u201d\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Courses graded pass and pass with honors will satisfy Constellation LVC, major, and minor requirements for this semester only.
