{"id":5418,"date":"2019-10-22T16:29:14","date_gmt":"2019-10-22T16:29:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/wordpress\/lavie\/?p=5418"},"modified":"2019-10-22T16:29:14","modified_gmt":"2019-10-22T16:29:14","slug":"smoking-laundry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/lavie\/2019\/10\/22\/smoking-laundry\/","title":{"rendered":"Smoking laundry"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"dslc-theme-content\"><div id=\"dslc-theme-content-inner\"><p>By Joshua Snader \u201920, Staff Writer<\/p>\n<p>Emergency crews responded to two laundry-related incidents this week, one in Silver Hall on Sunday evening and one in Mary Green Hall on Tuesday morning. <\/p>\n<p>Campus officials have confirmed that there were no actual flames, only smoke, during Sunday night\u2019s incident. Additionally, the smoke was coming from a washing machine, not a dryer, as originally reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was no active fire,\u201d Michael Mumper, director of facility\u2019s management said. \u201cThe only thing damaged was the motor on the washing machine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Public safety officers were the first ones on the scene Sunday night according to Brent Oberholtzer, director of public safety.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can add that my staff (two members) responded and did the initial abatement of smoke,\u201d Oberholtzer said. \u201cThey then assisted the responding firefighters and alerted the Student Affairs Administrator on call (Greg Krikorian).  Once the building was ruled safe, we ushered the students back into the residence hall.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The cause of the smoke in Silver Hall was attributed to an overloaded washing machine. The incident in Mary Green is currently under investigation at this time. <\/p>\n<p>Students are reminded to clean out dryer vents after removing their clothing from the dryer. When loading dryers also make sure the vent has been cleaned out. Additionally, students should not overload the machines, according to Mumper.
