{"id":5275,"date":"2019-10-02T17:43:06","date_gmt":"2019-10-02T17:43:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/wordpress\/lavie\/?p=5275"},"modified":"2019-10-02T17:43:06","modified_gmt":"2019-10-02T17:43:06","slug":"cornhole-tournament","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/lavie\/2019\/10\/02\/cornhole-tournament\/","title":{"rendered":"Cornhole tournament"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"dslc-theme-content\"><div id=\"dslc-theme-content-inner\"><p>Hockey cornhole tournament<br \/>\nBy Cole Hepler \u201920, Staff Writer<\/p>\n<p>LVC\u2019s men\u2019s ice hockey team held its first corn hole tournament on Friday, Sept. 6, in the Peace Garden where more than 100 athletes and students gathered to compete.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe goal is to raise money for the LVC men\u2019s ice hockey team while bringing the campus together as one\u201d, Jared Karas, senior speech pathology major and tournament leader, said.<\/p>\n<p>The entire team were present to monitor play and keep the tournament organized. The tournament was deemed a success, and athletes from more than five different athletic teams were present in support of the team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe guys did a great job organizing this event in such a short amount of time,\u201d Don Parsons, MIH head coach, said. \u201cTheir prime focus was bringing the campus together on Friday night.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the weather cooperated with the coordinators as clear skies and cool temperatures also brought non-competing students to the event to engage in the festivities.<\/p>\n<p>Estimates of around $500 were fundraised as a result of the competition that will benefit the players during their weekend road trips this winter. Madison Carper and Jessica Lingenfelter, two women\u2019s soccer players, won the tournament and final game at approximately 8 p.m. Friday night. The prize was either two $50 gift cards from the earnings generated by the fundraiser or custom LVC corn hole boards donated to the tournament by a sponsor; the winners chose the gift cards as their prize.<\/p>\n<p>Non-participating students enjoyed the music and yard games such as spike ball and can jam, and empty corn hole boards were available for the spectators while the competition progressed.
