She has shown her entrepreneurial spirit and leadership skills throughout her time at LVC and wanted to work for a startup to get more hands-on experience.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;After LVC, I\u2019ll be working at a\u00a0startup in Venture for America\u2019s network in an emerging city,\u201d Malloy said. \u201cI\u2019m hoping to be in Detroit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Venture for America is a fellowship for recent graduates who want to learn how to build a business while making an impact. Venture for America fellows\u00a0receive\u00a0training,\u00a0join a startup and work for two years at one of\u00a0its\u00a0hundreds of partner companies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI learned about VFA while I was visiting a friend in Detroit last summer,\u201d Malloy said. \u201cMy friend\u00a0had gotten to know some of the 2018\u00a0fellows and\u00a0interns, so I spent some time around them during their Training Camp while I was there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After the stressful four-phase application process, Malloy believes it was all worth it in the end. \u202fOnly about\u00a010\u00a0percent of people who fill out the initial online application\u00a0are\u00a0admitted as fellows. The company has helped Malloy in successful\u00a0r\u00e9sum\u00e9\u00a0building, finding the right startup and what kind of information to\u00a0include\u00a0in a bio.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the most useful things I learned was to always quantify your impact\u2014include how many deals you closed during an internship, how many interactions your social media posts received, etc.,\u201d Malloy said.<\/p>\n<p>Malloy will be looking at social-entrepreneurship companies in Detroit where she can join a team as a designer or project manager.
