The march to Kreiderheim happened because of the football team’s win against Albright, 28-25.

The march to Kreiderheim originated back in the 1940s when students marched to the President’s house and demanded the Wednesday before Thanksgiving break off. The last time the students marched to Kreiderheim was in 2011.

LVC President Lewis Thayne was at the game with his wife and got to see the football team win in true fashion.

The students met at the football field on Sunday at 4 p.m. to begin the march. The band led the student body to Kreiderheim where Thayne was waiting for them.

Jon Harned, a junior physical therapy major, thought everyone on campus came together to make this march possible.

“The march to Kreiderheim was really cool because it felt like there was a whole new vibe on campus,” Harned said. “Regardless if you were marching as an athlete or not, it felt as if everyone was coming together and embracing what it means to be a Dutchman.”

When the students could see the house from the driveway, they started to rush the front porch where Thayne was standing. Once all the students made it to the house, the football captains — Bryant Weller, Tom Gallagher and Travis Saylor — went up and stood with the President. Saylor, a senior wide receiver, was the one who requested off.

“I’ve wanted that moment for so long and when it finally came it felt so surreal,” Saylor said. “Definitely something I will never forget.”

President Thayne was given the game ball. He thought the request through while asking a board member if he was allowed to grant the day off.

Thayne finally granted the students off for the full day. This is Thayne’s first time granting the students a day off from school because of a football team victory over Albright.

Let’s hope it happens again in 2017!

By Tyler Cottle, staff writer Classes were cancelled for the day before Thanksgiving.
