{"id":4506,"date":"2018-11-29T21:55:25","date_gmt":"2018-11-29T21:55:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/wordpress\/lavie\/?p=4506"},"modified":"2018-11-29T21:55:25","modified_gmt":"2018-11-29T21:55:25","slug":"christmas-at-the-valley-coming-soon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/lavie\/2018\/11\/29\/christmas-at-the-valley-coming-soon\/","title":{"rendered":"Christmas at the Valley coming soon"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"dslc-theme-content\"><div id=\"dslc-theme-content-inner\"><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">By Meridyth Sanders &#8217;21, staff writer<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">LVC\u2019s music department prepares for one of the most attended events of the year as the holiday season grows near: Christmas at the Valley. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Christmas at the Valley is a concert held annually that emphasizes a traditional worship service in a format known as a \u201cFestival of Nine Lessons and Carols.\u201d Scriptural readings interspersed with a variety of performances from LVC\u2019s music department will illustrate the story of Jesus Christ. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cEven though some folks have been listening to Christmas music for a few weeks now, our hope is that, for those in attendance, Christmas at the Valley will open their hearts to the Christmas season,\u201d Dr. Zeuch, director of choral activities and assistant professor of music, said. \u201cNot the season of shopping, baking and craziness, but the season of anticipation, reflection and love.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dr. Zeuch, as director of Christmas at the Valley, aims to perform more songs that include instruments and chamber choirs in this year\u2019s performance than have been used in previous years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI\u2019m excited to see how the addition of more musicians can add to the concert,\u201d Zeuch said. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Much of the music performed this year will be familiar, traditional carols, but one song in particular will hopefully move the audience into the Christmas spirit. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI am most excited about the piece \u201cThe Work of Christmas\u201d by Dan Forrest, which we will sing toward the end of the concert,\u201d Zeuch said. \u201cThe text of the piece explains that Christmas is not one day, but rather the start of what we must do after Christmas if we truly believe in the meaning of Christmas.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Christmas at the Valley will be held on Dec. 2, with performances at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThis is my first year of this campus tradition, and I am thrilled to be a small part of such a long legacy,\u201d Zeuch said. \u201cThe overall experience in planning and preparation has created much anticipation.
