Arnold Art Gallery\u2019s latest art installation titled \u201cWitness To War,\u201d to veterans from the Lebanon VA hosting their own video event to be held at the gallery.<\/p>\n<p>New to the calendar is another educational event dedicated to art, writing and wellness. Frederick Foote is a retired U.S.\u00a0Navy physician\u00a0and\u00a0an author. Foote\u00a0will appear on campus for a lecture and writing workshop on Thursday,\u00a0Nov. 15, in Zimmerman Recital Hall of the Suzanne H. Arnold Art Gallery.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrederick Foote leads the Epidaurus Project which aims to integrate whole-person care in hospitals and clinics throughout the U.S. Military Health System,\u201d\u00a0Dr.\u00a0Barbara McNulty, director of Suzanne H. Arnold Art Gallery and assistant professor of art history, said.<\/p>\n<p>Foote\u2019s lecture will focus on the healing and coping process of life\u2019s harsh realities and how writing and art can have a large role in the positive ways in which we heal.\u00a0Following the lecture, Foote, will host an interactive writing workshop.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis workshop highlights the integral role that the arts and humanities play in wellness and well-being,\u201d Holly Wendt, assistant professor of English and director of creative writing, said. \u201cThis workshop is an opportunity to see creative practice in action and engage in it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The event is free and open to the public, however sign-ups are necessary as there will be a lunch provided between the lecture and workshop.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the most important things a writer can do is to keep learning and keep trying new things,\u201d Wendt said. \u201cIt\u2019s very easy to get stuck in one\u2019s habits or comfort zones, so I am excited to be a participant and\u00a0take part in writing\u00a0away from my own desk and classroom.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am looking forward to learning how he structures the workshop as a teaching tool,\u201d McNulty said.<\/p>\n<p>Foote\u2019s journey as a retired physician is a unique one that reminds writers how their ambitions of writing are not always recognized early on in life, but instead cued\u00a0by a distinct event, lifestyle\u00a0and realization.<\/p>\n<p>This opportunity is\u00a0geared toward\u00a0a variety of majors,\u00a0including\u00a0art, creative writing and\u00a0English, as well as history.
