Counseling services host events and activities to educate students about mental health.<\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>Shroyer Health Center, located on Sheridan Ave, provides con -dential and free services open to everyone. If a student feels sick or would like to discuss current struggles they are facing, professional counselors are available during drop-in hours or upon appointment.<\/p>\n<p>The Health Center also offers students opportunities to discuss challenging obstacles with 50\/50 Peer Helpers, student workers who can offer similar resources to students. This allows students to talk and open up to someone in their age group.<\/p>\n<p>As students, it can be hard to find the time to use the resources Shroyer has to o er, especially as they nd themselves in classrooms and interacting with faculty and sta most of the time. Many professors want their students to know that they are not alone and are huge supporters and advocators of mental health awareness.<\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>\u201cI lost my brother to suicide,\u201d Shelly Moorman-Stahlman, professor of music and LVC organist, said. \u201cSuicide prevention and depression treatment is really important.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Moorman-Stahlman is currently teaching a connective experience course designed to teach how mental incapabilities can affect a writer\u2019s, composer\u2019s and artist\u2019s work, called \u201cMusician &amp; Artist: Integration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To cope and destress with life\u2019s daily encounters, Moorman-Stahlman turns to music.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI use music as my outlet and play the piano and organ,\u201d Moorman- Stahlman said. \u201cI play the compositions that reflect my mood.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her advice for students is to find\u00a0ways to de-stress and relax healthily, such as finding a passion and using art as a creative outlet. She also recommends any form of exercise.<\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>Another professor, Brandon Stootho teaches a second conjunction course to the same connective, \u201cScience of Well-Being &amp; Malaise.\u201d Stootho has first-hand experience with working and helping those who struggle with mental illness because of his second job as a therapist.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI put a lot of advocacy for mental illness into my lectures,\u201d Brandon Stootho , psychology adjunct instructor, said. \u201cI want to empower people and harness their potential.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To de-stress, Stootho recommends that students take time for self-care by focusing and being by themselves.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want students to know that I am a resource and available to talk if they had a family member or friend who was affected by suicide,\u201d Moorman- Stahlman said.<\/p>\n<p>Stop by Shroyer Health Center for more information on mental health.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>By Sierra Force &#8217;20, staff writer Lebanon Valley College offers students resources for positive mental health at their on-campus facility, Shroyer Health Center.
