Participants will be on the front lines fighting homelessness, increasing access to affordable housing and creating a healthy, sustainable food system that is equitable for all.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThrough service trips, students will gain self-awareness and many skills transferable to the classroom and future careers, like cultural competence, leadership and relationship-building,\u201d said Brandy Leininger, director of service and community engagement.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The group will partner with organizations such as the National Coalition for the Homeless, So Some Might Eat (SOME), ONE DC and DC Kitchen.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMaking it a priority to learn about the challenges that those dealing with food and housing insecurities face every day shows your commitment to caring and connection with your fellow human beings experiencing hardship,\u201d said Leininger.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students will also experience Washington, D.C.\u2019s rich history and culture through museum visits, sightseeing and free time.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The opportunity is open to all LVC students; however, the nature of the trip requires significant walking and use of public transportation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Including all expenses, aside from personal spending, the trip is estimated to cost a maximum of $1,600 per person. Fundraisers are planned to assist with financial need. Students will stay in a hostel with other LVC students where the group will prepare their own meals in a shared kitchen.
