{"id":17611,"date":"2026-10-29T12:40:07","date_gmt":"2026-10-29T16:40:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/lavie\/?p=17611"},"modified":"2026-10-29T20:42:31","modified_gmt":"2026-10-30T00:42:31","slug":"professor-grace-jackson-joins-the-music-department-at-lvc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/lavie\/2026\/10\/29\/professor-grace-jackson-joins-the-music-department-at-lvc\/","title":{"rendered":"Professor Grace Jackson joins the music department at LVC"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"dslc-theme-content\"><div id=\"dslc-theme-content-inner\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Audrey Gould \u201928, staff writer<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This semester, a new music professor is settling in at The Valley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Grace Jackson, assistant professor of music, has had music in her life from a very young age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI grew up in a musical family, so it was part of my education,\u201d Jackson said. \u201cAnd I think from probably middle school or high school, I knew I wanted to major in music in college.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whether it was at church or a private studio, college students or small children, Jackson says she always knew she wanted to teach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMusic was the avenue that I wanted to use to teach because it is a skill that I had developed from a young age,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even with her musical upbringing, Jackson\u2019s parents allowed her to make her own decisions about her future. Even so, Jackson chose music. Now, she is bringing that passion to LVC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">LVC became Jackson\u2019s destination after seeing a job posting for an organ instructor, a job that opens infrequently. The organ is Jackson\u2019s primary instrument.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jackson teaches private piano and organ lessons, class piano, the handball ensemble and a graduate course for music education students of music and educator wellness, the latter of which Jackson studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe students are amazing and committed to what they do,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd I love that we have so many non-music majors involved in our programs through our ensembles. I think that's a really important thing and that goes to show the importance of music education.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jackson made strong connections with her professors while completing her undergraduate degree at Oklahoma City University.
