{"id":17526,"date":"2026-10-29T12:41:09","date_gmt":"2026-10-29T16:41:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/lavie\/?p=17526"},"modified":"2026-10-29T20:42:36","modified_gmt":"2026-10-30T00:42:36","slug":"passionate-students-restart-inactive-club","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/lavie\/2026\/10\/29\/passionate-students-restart-inactive-club\/","title":{"rendered":"Passionate students restart inactive club"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"dslc-theme-content\"><div id=\"dslc-theme-content-inner\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By Taryn Seidel \u201929, staff writer<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After years of inactivity, LVC once again has a Feminist Club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The club was restarted by junior Grace Geiselman who was then joined by Savannah Kent, a sophomore biochemistry pre-med and social justice major.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere was no current space to have open discussion about feminism and for fellow feminists on campus,\u201d Kent said. \u201cWe thought it was incredibly necessary to have a space for people who consider themselves feminists to have a space where they can talk about their experiences on and off campus.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The club aims to uplift minorities, present equal opportunities and build a better culture on campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBeing a feminist, to the club and me, does not mean promoting women over men,\u201d Kent said. \u201cBut instead deconstructing the social standards women are held to, and the ways that society benefits men or attempts to shrink women in professional, academic, and social settings.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Club meetings are discussion-based, featuring feminist reading content, movies and videos. They also include areas of vulnerability for young adults such as toxic masculinity, misogyny, oppressive tactics, rape culture and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe have open discussions on how what we learned about affects us on campus, how we can make change, and how we can take what we learned outside of campus and create a greater effect on society,\u201d Kent said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Feminist Club meets every Sunday at 6:30 p.m. in Blair Music Center room 019.
