With tons of clubs across LVC\u2019s campus, one has been on the rise this year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

LVC\u2019s anime club has been around for a while. Every year it has grown, it connects more people passionate about the art form together. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For those unfamiliar with the term, anime refers to Japanese animation.\u00a0A wave of new fans has been created with\u00a0its\u00a0growing popularity in the west.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This surge in popularity has allowed LVC\u2019s anime club to thrive. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In terms of activities, the club hosts watch parties, movie nights and other anime events. They also host many casual discussions during meetings about related topics, such as manga and popular news happening in the anime industry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The club has hosted many movie nights and trivia competitions over the years. These events have brought in big crowds for the club. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kennedy Cohen is a junior music business major and is the vice president of anime club. They look forward to seeing the club grow and are happy to meet like-minded fans. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOverall, the goal is to create a fun and interactive safe space for those who want to learn more about and engage with the anime community,\u201d Cohen said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The club does its best to make the space an inclusive and friendly environment. However, just like any hobby, there can be a negative stigma. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Giana Wilkerson is a senior English and creative writing dual major and is the president of anime club. She has been a fan of anime for over a decade. As a result, she has seen the highs and lows of the outlook towards anime fans. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWith a negative online representation of the community through particular people and lots of stereotyping, this leads to stigma that the club hopes to break,\u201d Wilkerson said. \u201cDespite many of us having ‘cringe moments’ or being awkward, it\u2019s what makes the club feel more authentic and fun. Anime club highly values individuality and safe expression.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The club is excited to grow and continue to spread its love for anime. As this semester closes, they are already prepared for the next to begin. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anime club will be hosting a trivia competition on Friday, Nov. 20, at 7 p.m. in the basement of the Allan W. Mund College Center. All students are invited to attend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
