LVC Opera is putting on its second production ever this November. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The show being performed is \u201cSpeed Dating Tonight!,\u201d which is a unique opera. Each production of the show can vary in cast size, having different songs for the different \u2018daters.’ It is a comedy that consists of musical vignettes that portray a speed date between two people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSpeed Dating Tonight!\u201d is a story about a speed dating event that takes place in a small town bar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first characters introduced in the show are Kaylee, the speed dating coordinator, as well as the bar\u2019s waitress, Stephanie, the bartender, Quinn, and the bar\u2019s bus boy. As the show continues, the different speed daters at the event introduce themselves, as well.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Considering that this is the second opera being done, the music theatre and opera department is excited about the growing opportunities for the different shows that can be put on. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe program has grown in numbers and in interest,” Lacey Shirk, who plays Kaylee and was also in last year’s opera, said. “Morale has been higher than ever, and it is really such a treat to see everyone putting their all into the art that is being in an opera.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shirk also talked about how her involvement with the opera has been a different experience in performing than the other shows she has done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe technical ability and acting prowess it requires,” Shirk said. “It is such a healthy challenge as a performer and a collaborator.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another cast member, Ruby Torres, who plays Stephanie the waitress in the show, also explained how the experience of doing the opera has been special to her because it forces her to push herself. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m so used to musical theater, but with this show, I\u2019ve learned about different technical training and placements,” Torres said. “I\u2019ve learned so much so far, and I\u2019m really grateful for this experience.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both actresses remarked on why people should see the show, saying that it is a fun time getting to watch as the cast builds on their different characters. The show has a variety of stories going on, which gives a special twist to the comedic theme of the opera. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
