A new student center has just opened at LVC. Students upon returning from summer break may have noticed a new entrance to the Allan W. Mund College Center, and it\u2019s not just for show. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Culture, Community and Belonging Center had its grand opening on Tuesday, Aug. 26, and was celebrated by students, staff and alumni alike with speeches, music and food.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the event, Annesha Edwards-Carter, director of Culture, Community, and Belonging, gave some information about the new center. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was a lot of change during the transition from lounge to center. The new center gained a lot more visibility and space which the original location in the library had lacked. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aside from studying, students can connect with peers as well as explore, express, and learn about each other\u2019s cultures. Students can also attend events such as National Coming Out Day and Step Africa. With more events hosted by faculty and community partners, there\u2019s always something to get students engaged in. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many clubs meet and host activities. The clubs that will be hosting activities in the center are Black Student Union, Latin Hispanic Alliance, Asian Culture Club, Freedom Rings, and the new created Infinity Club. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some resources offered through the center are Brave Zone Training, Mosaic Mentor Program, and Thrive Program. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lastly, returning students may remember the original location having a Wii. Not only will the Wii be making a return, but so will possibly a Nintendo Switch for students to play while taking a break from their studies.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis center is decades in the making from folks who advocated and spoke out, who wanted to see inclusivity on campus,\u201d Edwards-Carter said. \u201cThis is one of the many steps towards healing and moving forward.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 This center will continue to grow and help the campus community. Any and all students are welcome and encouraged to stop in.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
