{"id":13387,"date":"2025-04-04T17:14:35","date_gmt":"2025-04-04T17:14:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/wordpress\/lavie\/?p=13387"},"modified":"2025-04-04T17:14:35","modified_gmt":"2025-04-04T17:14:35","slug":"from-lvc-to-master-falconer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/lavie\/2025\/04\/04\/from-lvc-to-master-falconer\/","title":{"rendered":"From LVC to master falconer"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"dslc-theme-content\"><div id=\"dslc-theme-content-inner\">\n<p>(By Alexis McCarney \u201925, staff writer)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>LVC got a glimpse into a 4,000-year-old tradition on career and advising day.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jack Hubley, class of 1973, began his educational career at LVC as a music major on a scholarship to play trumpet.\u00a0He shifted gears and became a psychology major after realizing music was not for him.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shortly after graduating, he decided to explore his interest in wildlife. Hubley shared that his interests are not just in birds, but all wildlife, which he has a great respect for.\u00a0From childhood, he has enjoyed connecting with nature and interacting with \u201ccritters.\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He touched briefly on the process that it took to become a master falconer, including a two-year apprenticeship, a written exam and a facility inspection\u2014all to be completed before capturing a falcon.\u00a0Catching one and training it is also part of what it takes to achieve this title.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hubley brought a Harris\u2019s hawk, Super, and a peregrine falcon, Comet, to campus.\u00a0Zoo America, located in Hersheypark, is where these birds call home.\u00a0However, it is at The Hotel Hershey where they get to really spread their wings.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Guests can choose to go on falconry experiences, either group or public, where they have the opportunity to learn about the birds and then have one fly to their gloved hand.
