Arnold Art Gallery recently debuted its spring exhibition, \u201cFloating Beauty: Women in the Art of Ukiyo-e.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The exhibition opened with a reception that featured traditional Japanese cuisine and a guitar performance by Sienna Brooks, a sophomore music major.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The exhibit features art in the style of <em>ukiyo-e<\/em>, a Japanese form that utilizes woodblock prints to produce art. The theme of the collection focuses on women\u2019s roles within Japanese culture during the Edo period (1603 &#8211; 1867). Visitors can also view a traditional kimono and sandals and learn about the process of wearing a kimono.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNot a lot of people know how woodblock printing works or how artistic prints work,\u201d Sofia Bunting, a gallery intern and attendant, said. \u201cI just hope that [LVC students] get a little bit of knowledge out of it and that they get to appreciate some really pretty art.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The exhibition is on loan from the Reading Public Museum and can be visited until early April.
