{"id":11972,"date":"2024-04-08T18:38:33","date_gmt":"2024-04-08T18:38:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/wordpress\/lavie\/?p=11972"},"modified":"2024-04-08T18:38:33","modified_gmt":"2024-04-08T18:38:33","slug":"from-career-advisor-to-full-time-professor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/lavie\/2024\/04\/08\/from-career-advisor-to-full-time-professor\/","title":{"rendered":"From career advisor to full-time professor"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"dslc-theme-content\"><div id=\"dslc-theme-content-inner\">\n<p>By Bella Getz \u201924, staff writer&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the fall 2024 semester, LVC will experience an addition to one department and a loss in another. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This shift will see Brynn Mason, currently the director of the Breen Center for Career &amp; Professional Development, transitioning to a full-time professor role in the department of business, accounting &amp; economics.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Having dedicated 17 years to career services, Mason didn\u2019t plan for this change, but found herself ready for a new challenge in her career path.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn the world of career services, we\u2019re always encouraging students to think about what you could see yourself doing,&#8221; Mason said. &#8220;Your careers are going to shift and change a lot overtime.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite her love for career services, Mason felt a growing interest in exploring other areas of higher education. For the past few years, she has been an adjunct professor teaching organizational communications, a course emphasizing business writing skills. In her new role, she will be teaching all sections of this course and a First Year Experience (FYE) course.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mason\u2019s FYE course explores the power of fan culture in sports and entertainment marketing. Her teaching approach focuses on practical application, aiming to give students skills they can implement in their future careers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mason\u2019s commitment to proactive student support is evident in her approach. She values the impact her teaching can have on students\u2019 professional lives, as seen when a student used a class assignment for his internship.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was a great way to see that what we do matters,\u201d Mason said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Treva Clark, chair of the department of business, accounting &amp; economics, welcomes Mason\u2019s transition.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNot only is Brynn an excellent instructor, but also her experience in student advising will bring an immediate boost to the department\u2019s service to our students,&#8221; Clark said. &#8220;We can\u2019t wait to have her as part of the team.\u201d &nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>By Bella Getz \u201924, staff writer&nbsp; In the fall 2024 semester, LVC will experience an addition to one department and a loss in another.
