The LVC men\u2019s and women\u2019s swimming teams are preparing to head south for this weekend\u2019s MAC Swimming Championships. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Starting Thursday, Feb. 15, teams will meet at York College\u2019s Graham Aquatic Center to compete in the four-day event. Each day will have two sessions, continuing through Sunday, Feb. 18.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zack Fischer, a junior competing in six events, will be making his first appearance in individual events at the Championships. Fischer shared his excitement about the upcoming weekend. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCompeting in the MAC Championships as an individual for the time really does feel surreal,\u201d Fischer said. \u201cIf you would have asked me two years ago if I thought I\u2019d be here, I\u2019d say you\u2019re crazy.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

LVC is sending nine men\u2019s swimmers along with nine women\u2019s swimmers as the team looks to return to Annville with hardware.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fischer competed on the LVC baseball team when it won its first conference championship in 20 years. After shifting to swimming his sophomore year, Fischer hopes to utilize his championship experience against some of the top competitors in the conference.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHaving to stop baseball was one of the toughest things I\u2019ve ever needed to decide,\u201d he said. \u201cTaking a leap of faith by going all in with swimming has been very rewarding and it makes me realize that anyone can accomplish anything with dedication and an open mind.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fischer has worked hard to get to this point in his athletic career. A person with experience in two sports, he is ready to lead the Dutchmen into the Championships.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI feel very grateful for this second collegiate athletic opportunity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The men\u2019s and women\u2019s teams were picked to finish 10th in the MAC Championships coaches\u2019 poll. Fischer says that the team is looking to prove this poll wrong.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe aren\u2019t bothered at all by the rankings,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019re ready to lock in and give it our all for the final push of the season.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fischer will be competing individually in the 100-yard butterfly, 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard breaststroke. For the relays, he will compete in the 400-yard medley, 200-yard medley  and 200-yard freestyle.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tickets to this weekend\u2019s event must be purchased online in advance of this weekend\u2019s event. The cost for students is $6 and $10 for adults. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
