{"id":11383,"date":"2024-02-20T15:03:03","date_gmt":"2024-02-20T15:03:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/wordpress\/lavie\/?p=11383"},"modified":"2024-02-20T15:03:03","modified_gmt":"2024-02-20T15:03:03","slug":"dutchmen-softball-getting-ready-for-another-big-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/lavie\/2024\/02\/20\/dutchmen-softball-getting-ready-for-another-big-season\/","title":{"rendered":"Dutchmen softball getting ready for another big season"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"dslc-theme-content\"><div id=\"dslc-theme-content-inner\">\n<p>By Julia Craig &#8217;24, associate editor<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The LVC softball team is looking to stay hot after last season\u2019s historic run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year, the team went 36-12, finishing in the top 16 in the NCAA tournament, including the first regional championship win in program history.&nbsp; This season has high expectations, as the preseason poll has voted the Dutchmen to win the conference in its first year in the MACF.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI like being the favorite.&nbsp; Everyone else in the conference has to step up,\u201d Scot Adams, head coach of the softball team, said.&nbsp; \u201cThe team still has to put in hard work, and we can\u2019t just expect it to happen.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A new coaching addition to the Dutchmen softball squad this season will also add a spark to the team.\u00a0Assistant coach Alyssa Harhigh has joined the coaching staff after playing five seasons for York College softball, winning multiple MACC championships, and earning All-MACC first-team awards in three consecutive seasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCoach Harhigh can connect with the players because she can relate to them, understanding the academic demands of a student-athlete,\u201d Adams said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The team itself does feel some pressure, as there have been big expectations from the team for a few years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI know there are a lot of people relying on us to replicate last season and go even further,\u201d Sam Burns, senior outfielder and reigning MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year, said.&nbsp; \u201cI think we should play every game like it\u2019s the last and make sure we don\u2019t get complacent.\u201d&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The team begins its season in Florida for spring break, where it will play a 10-game slate of strong competition.&nbsp; Catch the Dutchmen\u2019s first home game and conference opener on Saturday, March 16, at 1 p.m. against Stevens Institute of Technology!<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>By Julia Craig &#8217;24, associate editor The LVC softball team is looking to stay hot after last season\u2019s historic run.
