{"id":10035,"date":"2023-05-06T21:21:50","date_gmt":"2023-05-06T21:21:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/wordpress\/lavie\/?p=10035"},"modified":"2023-05-06T21:21:50","modified_gmt":"2023-05-06T21:21:50","slug":"mochi-moves-towards-computational-chemistry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.lvc.edu\/lavie\/2023\/05\/06\/mochi-moves-towards-computational-chemistry\/","title":{"rendered":"Mochi moves towards computational chemistry"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"dslc-theme-content\"><div id=\"dslc-theme-content-inner\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By Angelica Fraine '23, staff writer<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With graduation here, it\u2019s an exciting time for current seniors to set their sights on new horizons, and for Bruno Mochi, the path onwards is clear.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mochi, a senior chemistry major, will pursue a Ph.D. at Northeastern University to further his career path in the field of computational chemistry\u2014chemistry that is done primarily with computers rather than hands-on lab work.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOne of my professors, Dr. Ghimire, mentioned it off hand because he knew I was interested in math,\u201d Mochi said. \u201cAnd I said, okay this is kind of cool that people do chemistry, but on a computer.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During this past summer, Mochi participated in a research program at the University of Miami where he was given the opportunity to explore different areas of computational chemistry and fell in love with the process.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI learned how to do one little snippet of it, and thought, this is so cool,\u201d Mochi said. \u201cI know I could do this for the rest of my life and be happy.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From there, Mochi began to investigate what the next steps of his pursuit would be and decided to continue with higher education into a Ph.D. program to fully hone his skills and understanding of computational chemistry.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019m really open to whatever life has in store for me after I get my Ph.D.,\u201d Mochi continued to elaborate on his career goals. \u201cWhether it be working for a private company doing research and development, I\u2019d be open to that, or be a government scientist, I\u2019d also be open to that.
