Student interns at art gallery

Rebekah Nickel, a senior art and visual culture major, is currently in the middle of her fall internship at the Suzanne H. Arnold Art Gallery.

Nickel has been working on research for the Gallery’s recent acquisitions, screen prints and screen print frames by Sister Mary Lou Bongiovi. She has also been photographing and cataloguing them, as well as writing labels.

“I’m making good progress,” Nickel said. “I just finished cataloguing the frames and I’m moving onto the actual prints.”

On Friday, Oct. 23, the Gallery put up an ofrenda at Mund to celebrate the Mexican Festival Day of the Dead. Nickel assisted with decorating the ofrenda, and she also painted skeletons to go around it.

“It was an interesting experience in which I feel like I got to learn more about the culture and the history behind it as I put it together,” she said.

There is a poster by the ofrenda that has more information on the holiday. Students can check out the ofrenda outside Leedy Theater in Mund.
