Scott Boras’s delayed MLB season proposal explained

Sports on Christmas is not a new idea. The NBA and on occasion the NFL play on Christmas day but…playoff baseball on Christmas?

Due to the Coronavirus outbreak, the 2020 MLB season is being delayed and is potentially in danger of being canceled. Scott Boras, the highest ticketed agent in the MLB, proposed an idea to MLB officials regarding a full 162-game season within a span of 7-8 months.

The plan, which can start in June or July, involves around 12 doubleheaders being played per team. Length of the doubleheaders have been in discussion and can be potentially shortened to 7 innings to prevent injuries and fatigue.

Playoff games will be played in 11 stadiums in hot climate areas to prevent any cold weather. The World Series would be played at a neutral site, likely a dome. Many are open to the idea of a neutral site World Series while many are not, as only one-game playoffs are neutral sites in American sports.

“It would take home-field advantage out of the picture which is a big part of the game’s atmosphere,” Collin Krakowski, a sophomore, said. “NBA players refused to play in empty stadiums in the regular season, I assume the MLB players would carry the same attitude with the idea of a neutral site.”

The season has its final playoff game on December 26th. This also opens the glorious idea of a game-clinching World Series on Christmas.

What do you think of the proposal? Should they just cancel the season? Only time will tell.
