Men’s hockey names captains

The men’s ice hockey team has officially named alternate team captains for the 2019-2020 season.

Dawning the “A” this year will be junior forward Danny Galvez and senior defenseman Zach Yingst. They will join the leadership group led by Cole Hepler, who was named team captain back in April.

Galvez enters his junior campaign as one of the most experienced players down the middle for the Dutchmen. He will be looked at to provide a defensive presence as one of the strongest faceoff men in the lineup as well as a top penalty killer.

“It’s obviously something I’m very proud of,” Galvez said. “I’m just excited to get started and lead these guys the best that I can.”

On the other end, Yingst will anchor the blue line as the team’s most seasoned defenseman. Last season, Yingst logged a lot of minutes on the top defensive pair with former captain Mike Straub. He hopes to lean on that experience to help lead this year’s team.

“I’ve been through the grind of a season before, so I know what it takes,” Yingst said. “I want to set a good example for the young guys on what it takes to be a successful player day in and day
out.”

Head coach Don Parsons had nothing but great things to say about the character of his leadership group.

“These guys have demonstrated a team first mentality that the rest of the team respects deeply,” Parsons said. “They have proven that they will lead our players and be great role models to what our coaching staff expects of an LVC hockey player.”

The Dutchmen open the season on Nov. 1 when they travel to Saint Anselm College. The home opener is scheduled for Nov. 9 against King’s College.
