From number one fan to new coach

After months of student-run practices, the cheerleading team has a new coach.

The cheerleader squad received the news right before move-in day in the fall that both the head coach and assistant coach resigned from their positions. Both captains stepped up and took charge of the squad. That was until this spring semester when Wendy Boisvert accepted the open position.

“I found out about the open position right before the season started from my daughter, Alyssa,” Wendy Boisvert, head cheerleading coach, said. “She mentioned that the LVC cheerleaders did not have a coach.”

The cheerleaders weren’t sure what to expect. Luckily, for them, Boisvert was familiar with the team since she attended every football game

“I have coached sideline cheer and competitive in the past,” Boisvert said. “I have missed it, so I figured why not apply for the position.”

LVC is a campus committed to giving back to the community. Boisvert plans to get the cheerleaders more involved in community service events.

Just like it is expected for the cheerleaders to give their all at practice and games, so will the new coach.

“The only real challenge was trying to make sure I would be able to give 100 percent to the team with the busy schedule I have, without taking away from the girls,” Boisvert said. “I want to continue working together as a team, and have them push themselves above and beyond what they have before.”

For those interested in trying out for the fall season, tryouts will be held at the end of April.

“I am looking forward to working with the team this upcoming season, and hope they are as excited as I am to make some changes and be the best they can be,” Boisvert said.
