President Thayne Elected to Wyoming Seminary Board

President Lewis E. Thayne was elected to the Board of Trustees of Wyoming Seminary College Preparatory School, his high school alma mater, for the 2018–2019 academic year.

Dr. Lou Manza, chair and professor of psychology, was quoted in a Lebanon Daily News story regarding an unsolved murder from half-a-century ago. He was interviewed Daniel Walmer ’10 and discussed how the moral attitudes of the time could have affected the investigation.

 

Nicholas Pollak ’18 and Ben Witmer ’19 Interviewed by MTVU

Nicholas Pollak ’18, a chemistry and physics dual major with a minor in mathematics, and Ben Witmer ’19, digital communications, were recently interviewed by MTV–U. Nick and Ben are part of LVC’s intercollegiate varsity esports program, the first in Pennsylvania.

Dr. Lou Manza, chair and professor of psychology, had an extensive interview, “Here’s what Netflix’s Wild Wild Country doesn’t explain about cult leaders: An expert discusses how they seduce and control their followers,” published on The Verge website. The story was picked up worldwide, including as far away as China and the United Arab Emirates.

WPMT Highlights Newest Member of Men’s Lacrosse Team

John Haus, head coach of men’s lacrosse, signed 15-year-old Freddy Romero-Cabrera to an official letter of intent, which means that he will be part of practices, games, team dinners, events, and more according to a report on WPMT FOX 43. In 2011, Freddy was diagnosed with Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy. His signing was made possible by Team IMPACT, “a Boston-based non-profit that connects children facing serious and chronic illnesses with local college athletic teams.”

Dr. Thomas P. Dompier Publishes Football Op-Ed in USA Today

Dr. Thomas P. Dompier, associate professor of athletic training, published “Replacing youth tackle football with flag football might not make our children safer,” in USA Today. The piece, in which Dr. Dompier argues that removing helmets from the tackle equation will not prevent head trauma, was picked up nationwide by numerous USA partners.

Henry Devorick ’20 Named VALE Artist of the Year

Henry Devorick ’20, an audio & music production and music double major, was named VALE Artist of the Year becoming just the third artist to receive a contract with VALE Music Group, the College’s student-run record label. As VALE’s newest artist, Devorick opened for We The Kings during ValleyFest and release an EP, Nelson’s Umbrella, during VALE’s Spring Festival.

Dr. Treva Clark Leads Mission to Nepal

Dr. Treva Clark, assistant chair and associate professor of business & economics, spent her recent sabbatical helping lead a mission trip to Nepal on behalf of Grandview United Methodist Church in Lancaster. Grandview has sponsored a medical missionary in Nepal for two decades but this was their first supporting visit.

 

This was the seventh international mission trip for Clark, who also oversees the International Business Program. She previously served six missions in Latin America.

Dr. Broussard Interviewed by LVC Alum for American Conservative

Dr. James Broussard, professor of history, was interviewed by Charles McElwee ’11 for an article he wrote for American Conservative. Dr. Broussard, in his role as director of the College’s Center for Political History, was quoted in “Heinz, Santorum, and the GOP’s Working Class Legacy in Pennsylvania.”

Men’s Basketball Supports Make-A-Wish Disney Dream

The men’s basketball program hosted its second Make-A-Wish Game Feb. 3 and Fox 43 ran a story on the event last night. Wish Child Aramya Riley from Steelton was honored during pregame ceremonies, with team captains and cheerleaders presenting her with a one-of-a-kind LVC team jersey. Senior guard Collin Moore, from Magnolia, Del., made the announcement that Aramya’s Make-A-Wish trip to Disney was granted.
