Professor Robbins Quoted in Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Dr. Jeff Robbins, professor of religion and faculty mentor for the Allwein Scholars Program, was interviewed regarding the opening of Washington, D.C.’s newest museum, the Museum of the Bible. Dr. Robbins expressed concerns, including that “They seem to be excluding a great deal of diversity that makes early history much more interesting than the mythologized version of history.”

Yingst Named Advisor to Reading Royals

Doug Yingst P’01, director of corporate relations and athletic giving, has added a new “hobby” in his free time. Yingst, who oversees fundraising for LVC’s Blue & White Club, was named an advisor to the Reading Royals ice hockey club, which competes in the East Coast Hockey League has a branch team for the National Hockey League’s Philadelphia Flyers.

Patrick Inducted into Tamaqua Hall of Fame

Kelsey Patrick ’16, D’18, physical therapy, was inducted into the Tamaqua Area High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Patrick competed in track and cross country at LVC and was a three-time Academic All-American. She holds eight LVC records in track (indoor and outdoor) and cross country.

De La Cruz’s TD’s Highlighted

Jeremy De La Cruz ’18, a criminal justice major with a Spanish minor, hauled in a pair of touchdown receptions during the football team’s 36–0 road victory over Wilkes University. De La Cruz, a wide receiver and Lebanon High School graduate, caught TD passes of 55 and 10 yards from quarterback Tyler Sterner ’18, business administration.

Eric Woods ’12 Launches Annual Mathematical Sciences Colloquium Series

A true student-athlete who served as a math tutor and competed on the men’s soccer team as an undergraduate, Eric Woods ’12 returned to his alma mater to kick off this year’s Mathematical Sciences Colloquium. Woods, an actuarial science and economics double major, is a senior associate at Mercer in Richmond, Va. He discussed “Group Health Insurance and the Actuary’s Role” on Sept. 11 in the Atrium of the Vernon and Doris Bishop Library.

Professor Dewald Says Don’t Look at the Sun

Timothy Dewald, assistant professor of mathematical sciences, was a popular media ask heading toward the August partial solar eclipse in Lebanon. Professor Dewald, who has taught astronomy at LVC, was interviewed by WGAL NBC and the Lebanon Daily News on how to properly—and safely—view the eclipse.

O’Day Named President of Austin College

Steven P. O’Day, Esq., vice president of strategic initiatives and secretary of the College, was named as the 16th president of Austin College, a liberal arts college in Sherman, Texas, in August. During his four years at LVC, O’Day worked on the College’s strategic plan, Envision 2020, and campus master plan, One Campus. He was also intimately involved in several capital projects, including the Jeanne and Edward H. Arnold Health Professions Pavilion, Vernon and Doris Bishop Library, Frederic K. Miller Chapel, White Oak Street, and upcoming revitalization to the pedestrian bridge that will better connect North and South campus.

Eimear McElwee, a nursing student at Queen’s University in Belfast, is spending this academic year studying business at LVC through the British Council’s Study USA Program. It is the fourth consecutive year that Lebanon Valley has welcomed a Northern Irish student through this prestigious program.

Mathematical Physics Research Group Receives $175,000 NSF Grant

Dr. David Lyons, professor of mathematical sciences, received a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) for “CQIS: RUI: Entanglement and Applications via Local and Permutational Symmetry earlier this month. The $175,000 grant is the fourth NSF grant received for the student-faculty research conducted by the Mathematical Physics Research Group (MPRG). Dr. Scott Walck, chair and professor of physics, co-directs MPRG and was co-principal investigator on the first three grants with Dr. Lyons.

VALE Artist Sam Machin ’19 Performs Live on ABC

Sam Machin ’19, early childhood education and business administration, performed “Good Morning Sunshine” live during WHTM TV 27’s Good Day PA show July 17. Sam performed with the Anthony Pieruccini Trio, which has two LVC students as members, to promote her newly released EP, “In the Stars.” In February, Sam was signed to LVC’s student-run VALE records and the student-run VALE produced and promoted Sam’s album.
